On 20 April 1910 he helped on his father's farm in TX, Dallas Co., Pct. 5. He registered for the WWI draft in TX, Dallas Co., Dallas on 12 September 1918 . On 12 September 1918 he owned his own farm in TX, Dallas Co., Wilmer. John died in 1919 in TX, Dallas Co., Wilmer. He was buried in 1919 in TX, Dallas Co., Wilmer, Trinity Cemetery. He was 5'8" tall, with grey eyes and dark brown hair. From the May 13, 1891 Dallas Co., TX Times-Herald newspaper:

1919--John, his wife Lucy, and John’s father all died that year. All most likely died in the Spanish flu epidemic of 1918-1919. During the fall months of 1918, many schools and businesses closed, and churches did not meet. In late October 5,000 cases were reported in El Paso alone.

Their orphaned children, William T., Ernest Lee, and Helen M. Hilton went to live with their widowed grandmother, Mary L. Hilton, in Hutchins, Dallas Co., TX.

He died in 1934 in TX, Dallas Co., Wilmer. He was buried in 1934 in TX, Dallas Co., Wilmer, Trinity Cemetery. He became an orphan at age 4, when his parents and his grandfather all died, probably due to the Spanish flu epidemic of 1918-1919. He then went to live with his widowed grandmother and his great-aunt, Thodia Domany.
